January 27, 2018 Section 78:10, 17-22 United Order, Satan’s Tactics, Law of Consecration, Spiritual Growth, Line upon Line, God’s Love, God’s Name, Christ’s Name, Adam-ondi-Ahman, I don’t know how I missed v 10 yesterday! Here the Lord is giving the saints a higher law—one that will bring more joy and blessings to all, but at the same time, will be a growth challenge for the saints. The Lord gives a broad explanation of the law, He tells them why he is instituting the law, He tells them the blessing that will come from following this law [13 behold, this is the preparation wherewith I prepare you, and the foundation, and the ensample which I give unto you, whereby you may accomplish the commandments which are given you….15. That you may come up unto the crown prepared for you, and be made rulers over many kingdoms…” , and He also warns us of Satan’s tactics…I would think because He’s hoping that knowing the enemy’s offense would be enough of a head’s-up warning to us: v10: “O...

January 26, 2018 Section 78: 9-16 Councils, Unity of the Saints, Satan’s Tactics, Spiritual Growth, United Order,     In v 8 the Lord instructs Newell Whitney, Joseph Smith & Sidney Rigdon to sit in council with the saints, and then in v 10 He tells them why: “ Otherwise Satan seeketh to turn their hearts away from the truth, that they become blinded and understand not the things which are prepared for them.” This is pertinent to us at all time, and I find it especially here as we are working with both senior and junior missionaries from vastly different backgrounds and different viewpoints—but that really isn’t that different from every ward we’ve ever been in—it just seems to more evident here because we go to church with them, as well as working with them every day and into the evening, as well as living in the same high rise apartment building—and until we get our car—we spend hours crammed together in the Philippine traffic as we go to and from the Miss...

January 25, 2018 Section 78:1-8 Journal, Philippine Manila Mission, United Order, Loving Helping Sharing,  Since I last wrote, we have been in the MTC (quite a lovely experience); we have purchased a townhome in Vineyard UT (!!??); we have weighed our suitcases more times than I can count & at the airport all of them came in at a few tenths of a pound under weight ( J ); we have survived a 15 hour flight in a smaller-than-I-would-have-imagined seat in a large bumpy airplane; we are still trying to get our days and nights straight (we were up at 2 AM this morning….45 minutes better than yesterday); we are swamped with the process of getting a longer visa than the 30 day one on which we arrived; we are trying to figure out our mission jobs and keep finding that there is no time to do them; we are surrounded by sweet people who are doing much the same; we feel the Lord’s love; we are trying very hard to help others feel His love; and we are happy to be here…and will prob...

January 14, 2018 Section 77:2-15 Eyes that See, Book of Revelations, Growth, Self-Improvement, Obedience, When Joseph asked about many eyes that John the Revelator described the beasts as having, he was told that “ Their eyes are a representation of light and knowledge;” (v4). I want to remember that as I read verses about eyes that see. I want to seek the spiritual acumen, and knowledge, that will enable my vision to become stronger because I have worked to develop ‘eyes that see’, and hopefully at the same time, ‘ears that hear’. The rest of this section, and the explanations of these sections in the student manual indicate terrible times ahead for our world. In Revelations John is commanded to eat a little book.
