10/28/2018 - Section 121:1-25

October 28, 2018 Section 121:1-25 Trials, Tribulations, Endure to the End, Liberty Jail, Peace from the Lord, Blessings of Trials Tribulations and Hardships, Joseph Smith wrote this revelation, as well as Section 122 and 123 when he was in-prisoned in Liberty Jail for some months, in terrible conditions, and under terrible treatment. President Joseph Fielding Smith wrote of these as “one of the greatest letters that was ever penned by the hand of man. In fact it was the result of humble inspiration . It is a prayer and a prophecy and an answer by revelation from theLord. None other but a noble soul filled with the spirit of love of Christ could have written such a letter. Considering [their sufferings], it is no wonder that the Prophet cried out in the anguish of his soul for relief. Yet, in his earnest pleading, there breathed a spirit of tolerance and love for his fellow man.” (Church Hisotry and Modern Revelations, 2-176.) So Joseph is living...

7/10/2018 - Section 103:1-4

July 10, 2018 Section 103:1-4 Trials, Obedience Exact, Heart Might Mind and Strength, Growth, This section covers the deliberations of the leaders of the church, and the revelations from the Lord, as the saints worked to re-establish themselves after being forced from their homes, and re-establish their commitments in living the commandments. This terribly hard time –as to the loss of their homes, and the loss of peoples’ lives, and the terror they must have felt—is explained by the Lord as occurring 1) that their enemies “ might fill up the measure of their iniquities” (v 2) and 2) that the Saints or “ those who call themselves after my name might be chastened for a little season with a sore and grievous chastisement, because they did not hearken altogether unto the precepts ad commandments which I gave unto them”. This is a time that clearly reinforces D&C 82:3 which says “ of him unto whom much is given much is required.” What a reminder to me when I g...

6/20/2018 - Section 101:Section Overview

June 20, 2018 Section 101:section overview Life' Journey, Journal, Obedience, Covenants, All God's Creatures Have a Place in His Choir, Mission lessons, Trials, Persecutions, Press Forward Saints, Saints I stopped my scripture reading when Sister Taele was taken to the ER and admited to the hospital on Palawan: final diagnosis—Typhoid Fever and Dengue Fever at the same time, a rare occurance. She was just before she was well enough to leave the hospital, Sister Lafitani (see above) was admitted to St Luke’s here in Manilla with Chikungunya Fever. Just yesterday, Elder Davie, on Palawan was diagnosed with Dengue—fortunately his Dengue episode has not been as severe as the other of these tropical diseases have been. But this morning, I am just working with one of the sweetest hypocondriacs in the mission---frustrating, but so much less stressful. Now to the scriptures: this section was given to Joseph Smith who was in Kirtland Ohio. The saints in Missouri ...

4/23/2018 0 Section 92:1-2

April 23, 2018 Section 92:1-2 United Order, Order of Enoch, Lively Members, Peace, Comfort, Sorrow, Trials, Growth, If I understand the timing here, this section was given 1 year and 1 month after section 82. In that section, the saints were trying to live the United Order, but there were those who did not comply and lived selfishly among the saints. But in verses 11-12 of section 82, the leaders had been commanded to live the Order of Enoch and be examples to the rest of the saints on how to live the law of consecration. Those leaders were Joseph Smith, Oliver Cowdery, Martin Harries, Sidney Rigdon, Newel K Whitney and a few others. There were to unite their temporal interests under the rule of the Order of Enoch. Now, in Section 92 Frederick G. Williams—who is now one of the 2 counselors to Joseph Smith is being commanded to join the Order of Enoch. The Lord says to him: “ …you shall be a lively member in the order; and inasmuch as you are faithful in keepi...
