7/9/2018 -Section 102:1-34

July 9, 2018 Section 102:1-34 Judging Other, Holy Ghost, Revelation Continual, Callings, Influence Our, This section speaks of the first high council of the church which was organized “ for the purpose of settling important difficulties which might arise in the church, which could not be settled by the church or the bishop’s council to the satisfaction of the parties.” In the History of the Church, Joseph Smith’s instructions to the men who served on the high council was “ No man is capable of judging a matter, in council, unless his own heart is pure, and…we are frequently so filled with prejudice, or have a beam in our own eye, that we are not capable of passing right decisions….Our acts are recorded, and at a future day they will be laid before us, and if we should fail to judge right and injure our fellow-beings, they may be there, perhaps, condemn us; thee they are of great consequence, and to me the consequence appears to be of force, beyond anything w...

4/5/2018 - Section 88:70-91

April 5, 2018 Section 88:70-91 Zion’s Camp My Personal, Callings, Draw Near Unto Me, Missionary Work Is Work,   I started reading today, with the prayer that I might be a better senior missionary here. I am doing many things right, but I feel frustration with some of my reactions. This is a missionary situation where I am available 24/7—and that is how it should be. But there are times when I find myself, after several 24/7 days, beginning to shut down. I am noticing my lapses in memory more—in fact, everyone is noticing them more which is actually good – for when the missionaries realize my memory is not good, then they are so kind about providing what I can’t find in my brain right then. I love their help and thank them for it. I’m reasonably okay about this, as this is an aging process—and probably a stress problem—and I do accept this as normal aging patterns and sweet care from the young missionaries. But then there are the times when fatigue hits ha...

2/7/2018 - Section 81:1-7

February 7, 2018 Section 81:1-7 Callings, Pray Always, Seek Compassion, Let the Holy Spirit Guide, Holy Ghost,  This section begins the organization of the First Presidency of the Church. There is much to learn from the history involved with this section, and there is much to learn from the Lord’s words in these 7 verses. Historically, Jesse Gause was called to be a counselor to Joseph Smith. Brother Gause began his new duties in early March 1832. In April 1832, he went with Joseph, Newel Whitney & Peter Whitmer, Jr to Missouri to hold conferences there. In August 1832 he was called to go on a mission with Jebedee Coltrin. After 20 days Jebedee Coltrin decided to return to Kirtland because of severe pains in his head. BYU Studies documents: “ After prayer with and for each other, they parted. Jesse Gause continued east and walked right out of the history of the Church, never again to return. There appears to be no other record of the man either in...

5/10/2017 - Section 25:1-6

May 10, 2017 Section 25:1-6 Emma Smith, Hymns, Elect, Marriage Partners, Keep the Commandments and Blessings that Follow, Ordain vs Setting Apart, Callings, Obedience, Reminder from May 8, 2017: Though less than four months had elapsed since the Church was organized, persecution had become intense, and the leaders had to seek safety in partial seclusion. The following three revelations [sections 24, 25, 26] were given at this time to strengthen, encourage and instruct them.”   See the opening paragraph of my comments on Section 24….That information made this section to Emma regarding hymns even more significant to me—for so many times in my life, it has been the hymns that have brought comfort, peace and calm to my heart and mind. And just as important, there have been times when the hymns have instructed me in the gospel--thus expanding my understanding. I love knowing that the Lord specifically provided hymns to ‘strengthen, encourage and instruct’ us. P 50: “ Hi...
