January 31, 2019 Section 136:12-42 Obedience, Lord’s Rules for Living, Keep the Commandments, Unity, Draw Near Unto Me, Satan’s Efforts, Smith and Sjodahl summarize verses 18-27 beautifully : “the members of the Church had been disappointed, if not discouraged, because Zion had not been redeemed. No doubt it was trying to the faith of some to be on the way to the unknown region of the Rocky Mountains. All that they had heard of this territory was discouraging and the redemption of Zion seemed farther away than ever from fulfillment. Now they were to take courage, for the Lord had not forgotten Zion, and it should be redeemed in the due time of the Lord. It was well, therefore, for the members to obey counsel and not seek to build themselves at the expense of others; should this be done they would lose the reward. February 11, 2018 Section 84:42-120 Missionary Promises, Keep the Commandments, Obedience Blessings Of, Heavenly Father reminds us to keep his commandments & to ‘ give diligent heed to the words of eternal life ’(v43) And then He reminds us of His promises: “ and even I have given heavenly hosts and mine angels charge concerning you.” He reinforces this in v 88 “ …I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up.” He has always given this promise to His children who follow Him: Psalms 91:9,11,15, 16 “ Because thou has made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, my habitation…For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all they ways….He shall call upon me, and I will answer him….With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.” He then gives wonderful promises to His missionaries: V 61: “For I will forgi...

August 24, 2017 Section 64:18-43 Missionary Requirements, Leaving the Church, Keep the Commandments, Keep the Faith, V’s 22-23 and 33-34 go together beautifully at any time, but especially as Bob and I get ready for our next mission: : 22-23   “ …go with an open heart up to the land of Zion; for I, the Lord, require the hearts of the children of men.    Behold, now it is called today until the coming of the Son of Man, and verily it is a day of sacrifice and a day for the tithing of my people; for he that is tithed shall not be burned at his coming.” And 33-34: “Wherefore, be not weary in well-doing, for ye are laying the foundation of a great work. And out of small things proceedeth that which is great.    Behold, the Lord requireth the heart and a willing mind; and the willing and obedient shall eat the good of the land of Zion in these last days.” P 138 gives a quote from the Oct 1913 Gen Conf. August 17, 2017 Section 63:21-37 The End of the Earth, Keep the Commandments, Satan’s Work, Missionary Thoughts, Pride, Meekness, Holy Ghost Accessing, V 21 speaks of the changes that are planned for our earth. “ When the earth shall be transfigured, even according to the pattern which was shown unto mine apostles upon the mount [Mount of Transfiguration]; of which account the fullness ye have not yet received.”   The student manual has a quote from Cowan, Doctrine and Covenants, P 101 and also suggests reading D&C77; 88:17-20, 25-26; 101:24-25; 130:4-11). Cowan stated: “ 1. At the beginning of the Millennium, it [the earth] will be raised from its present telestial to a terrestrial state, and only the righteous will have a place on earth at that time. 2.
