November 16, 2018 Section 124:21-48 Temple Service, Temple Importance, Keep the Commandments…Really Well, Agency, In v’s 25-27, the saints are asked once again, to build a temple. This is the 5 th temple they have been asked to build. The Kirtland Temple was completed and the Nauvoo temple was completed, but used for only a brief time. The corner stones were laid in Jackson County Missouri, Kirtland Ohio, Far West, Missouri, Adam-oni-Ahan, Missouri. This shows the importance the Lord places on having a working temple, and then doing the work within the temple. I need to remember when I go, that while it is a place of peace and learning and renewal, it is also a place where we do work for others that they cannot do for themselves. It is the most important ‘service project’ in which we could be involved. July 24, 2018 Section 105:1-25 Pure in Heart, United Order Problems, Purify Ourselves, Good Samaritan Opportunities, Humility, Unselfishness, Love, Prayer, Draw Near Unto Me, Temple Importance, In v’s 4-5 the Lord explains, once again, why the saints were forced from their homes. It was because they were “ not united according to the union required by the law of the celestial kingdom; and Zion cannot be built up unless it is b the principles of the law of the celestial kingdom: otherwise I cannot receive her unto myself.” The Lord gave the saints the opportunity to live a celestial law, but the saints lacked a celestial love, as well as a celestial effort. I don’t know how many times I have gone about my church callings while complaining about others. I must realize that even when an event comes off well, or a lesson is effective, I have fallen short if I have not a pure heart. May 12, 2018 Section 96:1-9 Contention, Problem Solving, Temple Importance, Book of Mormon Importance, Work Place Importance, This section was given after the Kirtland council had met to consider how to use the French farm in developing the city. The council could not come to an agreement as to who would oversee this project, BUT they could agree to take the matter to the Lord. That is a great way to work directly toward solutions, and away from conflict and contention! V 1: We become so used to church terminology, that we can forget the meaning behind that terminology. “ To pitch a tent, one drives stakes into the ground to secure it. The deeper the stakes, the stronger and more stable the tent. May 6, 2017 Section 94:1-17 Family, Preparation AND Follow-Through, Spiritual Time Importance, Learning Pattern from Heavenly Father, Temple Importance, Today is Todd’s birthday. I love the days of my children’s birthdays, for that is when I spend more time than usual, thinking back over our lives together. I love the memories of their younger years, and I love the knowledge of them now, and of their so-good families. These are lovely days for me, for my children are such good humans! Now, on to my scriptures: Section 94 contains the Lord’s instructions to build up Kirtland to become a stake of Zion. The Lord starts explaining the “… work of laying out and preparing a beginning and foundation of the city of the stake of Zion…” From the student manual’s quoting of Berrett’s Restored church: “ The city was to be laid out with the temple as the starting point and the rest of the city built in relation to it.
