1/23/2019 - Section 133:52-74

January 23, 2019 Section 133:52-74 Lord’s Love and Closeness to Us, Draw Near Unto Me, Priorities Our Highest, Sanctification, Return to the Lord, Repentance, What wonderful verses to start out with this morning: v 52-53 “ And now the year of my redeemed is come; and they shall mention the loving kindness of their Lord, and all that he has bestowed upon them according to his goodness and according to his loving kindness, forever and ever.     In all their afflictions he was afflicted. And the angel of his presence saved them; and in his love and in his pity, he redeemed them, and bore them, and carried them all the days of old”   This verse is addressed to those who are redeemed by Christ. It’s my goal to recognize his loving kindness and the times he carries me NOW. I want to be able to express my gratitude NOW. I want to be aware and feel his loving touch, and be humble enough to not think it was by my power, but to know and feel and be t...

1/4/2019 - Section 133:1-6

January 4, 2019 Section 133:1-6 Appendix to the D&C, Lord Visiting His Temple, Second Coming Preparation, Sanctification, This section has been considered to be the appendix to the D&C,   just like section 1 was put first as it was considered the introduction.   John A Widtsoe said: “ …the two sections together encompass the contents of the book in a condensed form. An appendix is something which the writer thinks should be added to amplify that which is in the book, to emphasize it, to make it stronger or to explain the contents a little more completely.” And Joseph Smith said about this section: “…At this time there were many things with the Elders desired to know relative to preaching the Gospel to the inhabitants of the earth, and concerning the gathering; and in order to walk by the true light, and be instructed from on high, on the 3 rd of November 1831 I inquired of the Lord and received the following important revelation, which has ...

3/29/2018 - Section 88:63-69

March 29, 2018 Section 88:63-69 Prayer, Draw Near Unto Me, Sanctification, Heavenly Father, Verses 63 & 64 combine the scripture phrases that come into my mind so often to guide me, and oft times to stabilize me, but always reminding me of the importance of keeping my relationship with my father a lovingly maintained and vibrant one. “ 63: Draw near unto me and I will draw ear unto you; seek me diligently and ye shall find me; ask and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 63. Whatsoever ye ask of the Father in my name it shall be given unto you, that is expedient for you;” There is a beautiful description in the Smith and Sjodahl commentary on prayer: “… Prayer is more subtle than this doctrine implies. It may be described as the soul   speaking to God and the hearing God speak to it. It is, therefore, the deepest and the most wonderful act of which a man is capable, for in it the who universe is, as it were, concentrated…[Bis...

4/27/2017 - Section 20:9-34

April 27, 2017 Section 20:9-34 Book of Mormon Fullness of Gospel, Book of Mormon How To Book For Eternal Life, Commandments Reason For, Natural Man Put It Off, Justification, Sanctification, The student manual, commenting on v 9, has a quote from Bruce R McConkie that was eye-opening for me: “ Our revelations say that the Book of Mormon contains the fullness of the gospel. (D&C 20:9; 27:5; 42:12;135:3) This is true in the sense that the Book of Mormon is a record of God’s dealing with a people who had the fullness of the gospel, and therefore the laws and principles leading to the highest salvation are found recorded in that book.” (Mormon Doctrine) It is a true ‘standard of judgment’—we don’t have to guess to know what the Lord wants us to do, and what He will do for us if we but turn to him. V 19 starts a great listing of the reasons for commandments: “ And gave unto them commandments that they should love and serve him…”.   Then v 20 gives us the consequences of...
