1/4/2018 - Section 75:22-36

January 4, 2018 Section 75:22-36 Journal, Hearts Open, Missionary Work, Work, Help Others, Journal: We have 11 days until we enter the MTC. I am, as a postpartum nurse and lactation consultant, nervous about being a mission nurse—the missionaries do not require my area of expertise at this time in their lives, but I am confident that ‘in the strength of the Lord, I can do all things.’ That doesn’t mean that I am sitting around twiddling my thumbs—I am organizing information from the 4 months of weekly med treatment records that I’ve received from the Philippines. I am making lists of the meds that are normally used, and the processes of the most common individual diseases. I am reading my tropical disease book. I’m going over the wonderful notes from our missionary medical training that was held in SLC in December. I’m trying to keep up with my scripture study. And I’m praying, and remembering to speak to Heavenly Father every night and every morning—and times in between. ...

1/3/2018 - Section 75:14-21

January 3, 2018 Section 75:14-21 Missionary Work, Missionary Promises, Holy Ghost Companionship, The Lord has spoken to multiple missionaries who have been called, speaking to each one regarding where they shall go and who they shall go with. He reaffirms, as he speaks to all of them, in v 14, and reminds them “ …and behold, and lo, I am with them also, even unto the end.” And then comes the promise in v 16: “ And he who is faithful shall overcome all things, and shall be lifted up at the last day.” He doesn’t say: ‘and he/she who is the smartest’ or ‘he/she who is the most gifted speaker’ or ‘he/she who is called to more leadership positions’, He says: “HE WHO IS FAITHFUL SHALL OVERCOME ALL THINGS.” And that statement in itself indicates to me that I should expect to encounter difficult situations and challenges, and I should expect that if I work—in faith-- with my desires and efforts pointed toward trying to do my best (and trying to improve—in faith-- each time I fall sho...

12/29/2017 - Section 75:6-13

December 29, 2017 Section 75:6-13 Missionary Attitude, Missionary Work, Read This AGAIN, My Quest, My Goal, How nice to start my morning with verses 7-13. These verses seem to me to be the only missionary manual one would need. It seems to encompass—in these few verse—so many of the things that, as missionaries, we struggle with : V 7-8: “…I, the Lord, chasten him for the murmurings of his heart; 8. …nevertheless, I forgive him and say unto him again, Go….” 9. “… go with him [ or her ], and proclaim the things which I have commanded—10. Calling on the name of the Lord for the Comforter, which shall teach them all things that are expedient for them—11. Praying always that they faint not; and inasmuch as they do this, I will be with them even unto the end.”   12: “Behold, this is the will of the Lord your God concerning you….” 13:...proclaim the things which I have commanded them; and inasmuch as they are faithful, lo, I will be with them even unto the end.” Smith and...

12/24/2017 - Section 73:1-6

December 24, 2017 Section 73:1-6 Missionary Work, Joseph Smith’s Translation of the Bible, Priorities, Work for the Lord, Seek the Lord Early…And Late, Church Callings, It the D&C 73 it is January 1832. A little over 1 month ago (Dec 1 1831) Joseph and Sidney were commanded to go to Ohio and preach the gospel. Several people had left the church and had written letters, “scandalous letters”, to the newspapers which in turn caused many people to be more than upset about Mormonism and to reject its teachings before ever hearing of those teachings. Joseph and Sidney had followed the Lord’s command, they stopped their work of translating the Bible and began their 5 weeks of missionary work where they “ did much towards allaying the excited feelings which were growing out of the scandalous letters then be published in the Ohio Star.” (p 153) In the April 1978 General Conference, President Ezra Taft Benson said: “The Church’s mission is to declare the gospel of the kingdom to...
