2/7/2019 - Official Declaration 2

February 7, 2019 Official Declaration 2 Priesthood and Temple Blessings Extended to All, Prophets, Revelation, Plan of Salvation, Eternal Life and Eternal Growth, Testimony, Draw Near Unto Me, I hadn’t realized this before, but the reason for not allowing the priesthood, or the temple ordinances, to extend to all people was based on Abraham 1:21-27. The revelation that was sought, and that was given to President Kimball and the apostles, was that all the blessings and all the obligations of the gospel, including the priesthood and the blessings of the house of the Lord, would be extended to those of every nation, culture, and race. Elder McConkie writes beautifully as he described the events of those leaders, gathered in the Salt Lake Temple, and praying fervently for a revelation. “ On this occasion, because of the importuning and the faith, and because the hour and the time had arrived, the Lord in his providences poured out the Holy Ghost upon the Firs...

3/29/2017 - Section 9:1-14

March 29, 2017 Section 9:1-14 Patience, In the Lord’s Time, Revelation, Prayerful Requests, Best Our Best, I found a great truth described in the Historical Background of Section 9—one that is   often difficult to live with, but I think probably more important than we will know in our mortal life. Oliver Cowdery has expressed a desire to not just be the scribe, but to work on the translation of the plates also. “ Oliver is admonished to be patient, and is urged to be content to write, for the time being….” The Lord knows what we can handle, and what we should handle, and He also knows when we need more preparation—but He always acts for our benefit and growth: v 3, 4, 6 & 13 to Oliver who was not up to the work of translation:   3 “ Be patient, my son, for it is wisdom in me, and it is not expedient that you should translate at this present time.    4 Behold, the work which you are called to do is to write for my servant Joseph. 6   Do not murmur, m...

3/26/2017 - Section 6:16-37

March 26, 2017 Section 6:16-37 Lord Knows Our Thoughts, Progress in the Gospel, Revelation, Revelation of Peace, Peace, God’s Love for Us,    V 16 was surprising to me—it is Heavenly Father’s ‘privacy clause’.   “ Yea, I tell thee, that thou mayest know that there is none else save God that knowest thy thoughts and the intents of thy heart.”   Then there is the quote from Bruce R McConkie in Mormon Doctrine p 670: “ Men’s thoughts are secret and cannot be pried into by other men, or for that matter by devils.” I know that God knows the desires of my heart whether I tell Him or not in my prayers. I also know that as I talk to Him in my prayers, and discuss my failures, my triumphs, my joys, my thankfulness, my worries and my concerns—that He can literally guide my thoughts, and there have been times when He has literally directed my thoughts to conclusions I would never have come up with on my own. I also know that when I stand at the judgment bar of Christ t...

3/13/2017 D&C Explanatory Introduction

I so enjoy my scripture studies. So many times I have found that when I read the scriptures see new things in them. I love the truths I have always seen, and I love the new messages I will sometimes get with new readings. So here I am, studying the D&C in 2021. I've decided to combine this study with my 2017 study. So here goes:  Dec 28, 2020: I used to keep track of how often I read each book of scripture. But now, at 70 years of age, I think it’s much more important to keep track of the things I learn as I read the Lord’s thoughts, His advice to us, His love for us, His warnings (for no one knows what is ahead of us, except our Father—who created this learning experience for us all), His commandments. Basically, it is the loving advice of a Father who knows all.  One of my study manuals asked the questions “What do you want right now? What do you actually desire most? My first thoughts were: “I want to be ever closer to my Heavenly Father. I want to do the things He want...
