November 16, 2018 Section 124:21-48 Temple Service, Temple Importance, Keep the Commandments…Really Well, Agency, In v’s 25-27, the saints are asked once again, to build a temple. This is the 5 th temple they have been asked to build. The Kirtland Temple was completed and the Nauvoo temple was completed, but used for only a brief time. The corner stones were laid in Jackson County Missouri, Kirtland Ohio, Far West, Missouri, Adam-oni-Ahan, Missouri. This shows the importance the Lord places on having a working temple, and then doing the work within the temple. I need to remember when I go, that while it is a place of peace and learning and renewal, it is also a place where we do work for others that they cannot do for themselves. It is the most important ‘service project’ in which we could be involved. October 20, 2018 Section 118:1-6 Agency, Callings Do Our Best, Apostles in Far West, Holy Ghost What Is Our Role, This revelation is another of the four given to Joseph at Far West. This one was given July 5, 1838. What I love is that it came in response to the question: “ Show unto us thy will O Lord concerning the Twelve.” ( History of the Church 3:46) V 1 indicates that the vacancies in the Council of the Twelve are to be quickly filled. Four of the original Twelve, who had been called on Feb 14, 1835, had already been excummunicated: William M’Lellin, Luke Johnson, John Boynton and Lyman Johnson. One of the replacements at this time, John E Page, also ventually apostatized, but the other three remained faithful—two of them-- John Taylor & Wilford Woddruf eventually became prophets and presicdents of the church, and the fourth, Willard Richards served faithfully. May 7, 2018 Section 95:1-2 God’s Love, Chastisement, Chasten, Parenting, Agency, Adult Children, The commandment to build a temple was first given in December 1832 (D&C 88:119). This section was given just about one month after Section 94, which spoke of building edifices ‘for the work of the ministry’ as well as the temple. Joseph reported that when this section was given “ great preparations were making to commence a house of the Lord ,” but “ the church was poor ” and the work lagged. May 2, 2018 Section 93:31-40 Agency, Family Home Evening, Children Raised in Light and Truth, Parenting, A very sobering verse to begin today: v 31 “ Behold, here is the agency of man, and here is the condemnation of man; because that which was from the beginning is plainly manifest unto them, and they receive not the light.” I know that my children who have left the church have agency to do that. I know, too, that anger forces the spirit from us. And while I know that they thought, and struggled, and pondered—I feel they did that without the spirit near. And after scanning and reading all their missionary letters – and subsequent letters – I wonder how they can forget the spiritual gifts and insights and comfort they were given.
