5/16/2017 - Section 29:1-8

May 16, 2017 Section 29:1-8 As A Hen Gathereth Her Chickens, Safety, Missionaries Calling Blessings & Power, Elect, Gathering the Saints, V 2 is one that uses the sweet and easy to understand imagery of His promise that He will “gather his people even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings ”. It is after that sentence that He explains the responsibilities of the chicks who will be saved: 1)Hearken (Hear and do!) to my voice; 2) humble themselves before Christ; 3) call upon me in mighty prayer.   Those three things bring us into the safety of His arms—that makes our efforts of hearkening, humbling and praying actually small things for such an unbelievable reward. V 4 was written to the leaders of a young church…just 6 months old….to whom fell the task of growing that church. I would think they felt much as missionaries do today: sometimes unsure, sometimes worried if this was really what they should be doing, worried about their abilities to live up to this...

5/10/2017 - Section 25:1-6

May 10, 2017 Section 25:1-6 Emma Smith, Hymns, Elect, Marriage Partners, Keep the Commandments and Blessings that Follow, Ordain vs Setting Apart, Callings, Obedience, Reminder from May 8, 2017: Though less than four months had elapsed since the Church was organized, persecution had become intense, and the leaders had to seek safety in partial seclusion. The following three revelations [sections 24, 25, 26] were given at this time to strengthen, encourage and instruct them.”   See the opening paragraph of my comments on Section 24….That information made this section to Emma regarding hymns even more significant to me—for so many times in my life, it has been the hymns that have brought comfort, peace and calm to my heart and mind. And just as important, there have been times when the hymns have instructed me in the gospel--thus expanding my understanding.
