8/28/2017 - Section 66:1-13

August 28, 2017 Section 66:1-13 Journal, Mission Call, Missionary Advice, Missionary Blessings, Lord’s Guidance Seek, Lord’s Guidance Follow, Missionary Companions, Missions & Posterity, We got our mission call yesterday: Philippines Manila Mission! Reporting to the MTC December 4 th .   Now that we actually have a place to plan for, and a firm date by which to have everything completed, my mind shut down last night. Luckily I found a sweet movie to get me to bedtime. And today, let the lists begin!!!!   Actually, we were asked to read the Book of Mormon before arriving at the MTC, so this may be my last D&C entry for a while. Section 66 was given to William E McLellin, at his request of the Prophet Joseph Smith. It has a lot to do with missionary work, so what an appropriate section for me this day! Once again, the section synopsis seems like a wonderful reminder list for me: “ 1-4, The everlasting covenant is the fullness of the gospel; 5-8, Elders are...

5/9/2017 - Section 24:1-19

May 9, 2017 Section 24:1-19 Callings – Secrets of Succeeding, Missionary Blessings, Miracles, Humility, Dust of your Feet, Holy Ghost Influence Of, Charity to All, Teaching Pruning, Cursing, Missionary Attitude, Reminder from May 8, 2017: Though less than four months had elapsed since the Church was organized, persecution had become intense, and the leaders had to seek safety in partial seclusion. The following three revelations [Sections 24, 25, 26] were given at this time to strengthen, encourage and instruct them.”   In v’s 5-9 the Lord is giving directions to Joseph that will allow him to complete the tremendous calling that he has been given: “ For thou shalt devote all thy service in Zion; and in this thou shalt have strength.    Be patient in afflictions, for thou shalt have many; but endure them, for lo, I am with thee, even unto the end of thy days…Attend to thy calling and thus shalt have wherewith to magnify thine office….”   These scriptures ...

5/4/2017 - Section 21:3-12

May 4, 2017 D&C 21:3-12 Prophet Listen Carefully, General Conference, Gates of Hell, Blessings of Working in the Church, Missionary Blessings, Protection In the Lord, Ways of the Lord, Obedience, Service, Testimony, This revelation was given to Joseph Smith AND to the members of the Church. V’s 4 & 5 are included in this revelation and, thus, are given to Joseph AND to the members of the Church—probably very important for both Joseph & for us. President Harold B Lee said, in the Oct 1970 Gen Conf that was important in 1830, in 1970, and maybe even more critical today. In his address, “Let’s keep our eye on the President of the Church”, after referring to D&C 21:4-5, he continued: “ …Your safety and ours depends upon whether or not we follow the ones whom the Lord has placed to preside over his church, and he will make no mistake. The Lord doesn’t do things by accident…” Earlier in this same conference talk, he said: “ …We must learn to give heed to the word...

3/25/2017 - Section 6:1-15

March 25, 2017 Section 6: 1-15 Quick, Mysteries, Missionary Blessings, Seek the Lord’s Training, Revelation Personal, Holy Ghost, V 2 “quick and powerful, shaper than a two-edged sword”.   The Bible Dictionary defines ‘quick’ as ‘living, alive’. And says to be quickened by the Spirit means to be given spiritual life. The word of the Lord is quick and powerful because it is a source of life, energy and power. Another interesting definition—this one on the mysteries of God: “ A mystery is a truth that cannot be known except through divine revelation-a sacred secret ” (Smith & Sjodahl commentary) President Joseph Fielding Smith defined ‘mysteries’ in a similar way: “ The Lord has promised to reveal his mysteries to those who serve him in faithfulness….There are no mysteries pertaining to the Gospel, only as we, in our weakness, fail to comprehend the Gospel truth….The ‘simple’ principles of the Gospel, such as baptism, the atonement, are mysteries to those who do not ...
