June 20, 2017 Section 44:1-6 General Conference, Gemma, Members of the Church Duties Of, Ward Spirit Of, Welcome, Kindness to All, Do It Do It Now, Obedience, The Lord requires that Joseph Smith call another all Church conference. This will be the 4 th such conference. The first 3 were held in Fayette, New York. This one will be held in Ohio. The Lord says that “ it is expedient in me” to call everyone together “ from the east and from the west, and from the north and from the south” (v1). And then comes the promise in v 2: “…inasmuch as they are faithful, and exercise faith in me, I will pour out my Spirit upon them in the day they assemble themselves together.” In the 1938 Oct Gen Conf, President David O McKay explained some of the purposes for conferences: “… First, to transact current Church business (D&C 20:62), Second, to hear reports and general Church statistics (D&C 73:2), Third, to ‘approve of those name which I (the Lord) have appointed, or to disapprov...

June 16, 2017 Section 42:53-93 Scriptures Our Guide for Living, Lord’s Plan is Simple & Effective, General Conference, Civil War, Seek Wisdom Be Rewarded, Missionary Living, Growth Just Keep Growing,  The Lord is continuing with His instructions to those who have faith: v53 “ Thou shalt stand in the place of thy stewardship.” That is a simple plan to follow. Do what we have been called to do, and have charity for those around us. A simple formula that would help us in so many areas of our lives. May 4, 2017 D&C 21:3-12 Prophet Listen Carefully, General Conference, Gates of Hell, Blessings of Working in the Church, Missionary Blessings, Protection In the Lord, Ways of the Lord, Obedience, Service, Testimony, This revelation was given to Joseph Smith AND to the members of the Church. V’s 4 & 5 are included in this revelation and, thus, are given to Joseph AND to the members of the Church—probably very important for both Joseph & for us. President Harold B Lee said, in the Oct 1970 Gen Conf that was important in 1830, in 1970, and maybe even more critical today. In his address, “Let’s keep our eye on the President of the Church”, after referring to D&C 21:4-5, he continued: “ …Your safety and ours depends upon whether or not we follow the ones whom the Lord has placed to preside over his church, and he will make no mistake. I remember, in my elementary school years in Fort Worth, we had Stake Conferences every 3 months. I remember my first year at BYU, fall of 1968, I arrived at Temple Square at 5:00 AM and stood in a long line in order to get a seat in the Tabernacle for General Conference. It was cold and very dark, and there were so many people there I worried about whether or not we would get in. It was an anxious, but very sweet and thoughtful, waiting time. The main floor was filled when we got into the building, but we were able to sit in the front row of the balcony. I remember, as I sat on those small and not-so-comfortable pews, thinking about the pioneers who had built that magnificent structure.
