August 7, 2017 Section 59:8-13 Keep the Commandments, Obedience Blessings Of; Heart Might Mind and Soul, Eye Single to My Glory, Ten Commandments 2.0, Serve the Lord, Missionaries Stand a Little Taller, Serve With All Your Heart, Might, Mind & Strength, Continuing on with section 59, nicknamed ““ That thou Mayest More Fully Keep Thyself Unspotted from the World” V 8 commands us: “Thou shalt offer a sacrifice unto the Lord thy God in righteousness, even that of a broken heart and a contrite spirit.” The Smith and Sjodahl Commentary states “ The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: ‘a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise’ (Psalm 51:17); a broken spirit and a contrite heart are those in which the obstinacy of pride has been replaced by the humility of repentance, frequently brought about by sorrow and affliction.” As I continue reading in this section, the Lord seems to be covering the 10 Commandments with a bit more explanation: V’s 5, 8: Tho...

August 6, 2017 Section 59:1-7 Keep the Commandments, Obedience Blessings Of; Heart Might Mind and Soul, Eye Single to My Glory, Missionaries Stand a Little Taller, The theme the study manual gives to this section is: “ That thou Mayest More Fully Keep Thyself Unspotted from the World”. That is something the early saints struggled with, and that is something that we struggle with in our day. It is a struggle that comes upon us when we enter this earthly existence. In this section, the Lord is giving all of us suggestions that will help us ‘keep ourselves unspotted from the world’ or in other words: to draw closer to Him. V 1 tells us to keep “ an eye single to my glory according to my commandments. ” If we are keeping His commandments we will not be selfish, or self-centered, or overly proud, or haughty. Instead we will live as Christ lived: meek, loving, caring, teaching, accepting. V 3 pronounces a blessing on those “ whose feet stand upon the land of Zion, who have o...
