7/29/2018 - Section 106:1-8

July 29, 2018 Section 106:1-8 Second Coming, Lord’s Payments, Apostasy of 1837, Children of Light, Lord’s Work is Hard Work, Lord’s Promises This section is to Warren Cowdery. He is Oliver Cowdery’s eldest brother. Oliver was the youngest of 8 children and Warren was the oldest. Joseph Smith visited in his home. Warren is called as a ‘local presiding officer’. He is to work with the saints in his town, and in quite a few other towns in adjoining counties. The Lord has requested that he “ devote his whole time to the this high and holy calling, which I now give unto him seeking diligently the kingdom of heaven and its righteousness, and all things necessary shall be added thereunto; for the laborer is worth of his hire.” When we do our best in what we have been called to do, and add to that doing our best in what we are impressed to do, then the Lord has promised us all ‘necessities’, for we are “worthy of our hire”. His work truly is WORK, and his ‘necessitie...

6/24/2018 - Section 101:17-22

June 24, 2018 Section 101:17-22 Wayward Children, Pure in Heart, Lord’s Promises, Joy, Temple Sealings, Prayer, Friendships, Relationships with the Lord and with others, Draw Near Unto Him. My study starts this morning with two beautiful verses, that I hope to take literally: “ 17. Zion shall not be moved out of her place, notwithstanding her children are scattered. 18 They that remain, and are pure in heart, shall return, and come to their inheritances, they and their children, with songs of everlasting joy, to build up the waste places of Zion--“ In the deepest pockets of my heart, I hope this speaks to the eternal power of temple sealings.   And then there is v 22: “ Behold, it is my will that all they who call on my name, and worship me according to mine everlasting gospel, should gather together and stand in holy places.” That, to me, is a concise statement of what should comprise the essentials of my daily life. When things are going well, my ...

5/4/2018 - Section 93:51-53

May 4, 2018 Section 93:41-53 Lord’s Help, Leaders and Servants, Christ’s Friends, Service, Charity, In the Strength of the Lord, Lord’s Promises, Protection Spiritual, Satan How to Avoid, The Lord is speaking to the leaders of his church in v 45-46, and puts things into perspective for all of us: “ …I will call you friends, for you are my friends, and ye shall have an inheritance with me--   I called you servants for the world’s sake, and ye are their servants for my sake-” My challenge is to serve with sincere love, for that is what friends do, they serve one another willingly and happily and with love.   But then in the very next verse, He points out areas in which His leaders must improve. And then in v 48, He once again puts things into perspective for all of us: “ What I say unto one I say unto all: pray always lest that wicked one have power in you…” The Lord also emphasizes (v 50) the importance of our close family members—reminding me tha...

6/25/2017 - Section 45:57-75

June 25, 2017 Section 45:57-75 Last Days, Second Coming, Lord’s Promises, After describing the tumultuous times that will precede and accompany the second coming, Christ gives His assurance in v’s 57-59: “ For they that are wise and have received the truth, and have taken the Holy Spirit for their guide, and have not been deceived—verily [truly] I say unto you, they shall… abide the day….and they shall multiply and wax strong, and their children shall grow up without sin unto salvation.    For the Lord shall be in their midst, and his glory shall be upon them, and he will be their king and their lawgiver. ” While I have prayed to be able to do well my part in preparing the world for Christ’s second coming, I believe I have always quietly hoped to be ‘safely dead’ by that time. And yet this beautiful promise of the Lord of having our children wax strong and grow up unto salvation—makes me wish my time on earth might have been a little later than it was—but that – for m...
