November 14, 2018 Section 124:1-20 Attributes of Christ, What the Lord Looks For, Draw Near Unto Me, Lean on the Lord, Character Traits the Lord Loves, By October 1838, the saints were finding places to resettle after having been driven out of Missouri. People in Quincy Illinois and near Commerce Illinois and some in Iowa were kind and receptive to the saints. The gathering began again. This was a time of rest and recuperation and rebuilding for the saints. Smith and Sjodahl: “ The scattered saints were gathering, and the settlements in Illinois were growing rapidly. The mission in Great Britain was highly successful. Such were the general conditions when this revelation was given. The Church had a moment’s rest. There was calm before the next storm .” That’s a very good thing for me to remember as I continue my journey through life…There’s no predicting the weather. March 22, 2017 Section 4:1-7 Callings How We Should Precede, Great and Marvelous Work, Heart Might Mind and Strength, Commitment Total, Missionaries, Service, Serving, Church Growth Of, Attributes of Christ, This section was directed to Joseph Smith Senior, who had come to visit Joseph and Emma at a small farm Joseph had just purchased from Emma’s father. The student manual gives this introduction: “Even though this revelation was given for the Prophet’s father, it is addressed to all people who would serve God. Elder Joseph Fielding Smith pointed out that while only seven verses long, ‘it contains sufficient counsel and instruction for a lifetime of study. No one has yet mastered it. It was not intended as a personal revelation to Joseph Smith, but to be of benefit to all who desired to embark in the service of God.
