May 20, 2018 Section 98:5-15 Constitution The, In the Strength of the Lord, Surviving Turbulent Times, Healing Power of God, Comfort and Peace, Verses 6-12 speak of the constitution, and its importance to our country, and to the religion. They are beautiful and instructive verses. And the student manual gives wonderful thoughts and quotes on the importance of the constitution and our duty in upholding the constitution. (see pages 231-232) Our participation as individual citizens is vital in this process. V 9: “ When the wicked rule, the people mourn.” We need not just the constitution, but strong and good men and women who will uphold that document and protect that document. May 18, 2018 Section 98:1-4 Faith in Hard Times, Adversity Living Through, In the Strength of the Lord, Missouri Saints, Church is Not Full of Perfect People, This section was given a short time after the first serious mob action against the saints in Missouri. They had lost property and they had been physically hurt. They were frightened and they were angry. An interesting fact is that Joseph was still in Kirtland, nine hundred miles from Missouri. It is highly unlikely that news of the mobbing could have reached him by the time this revelation was given. I think one of the great challenges of life comes as we yearn toward eternal goals, but live with mortal understanding. That is the very condition here on earth that demands that we must live by faith. May 4, 2018 Section 93:41-53 Lord’s Help, Leaders and Servants, Christ’s Friends, Service, Charity, In the Strength of the Lord, Lord’s Promises, Protection Spiritual, Satan How to Avoid, The Lord is speaking to the leaders of his church in v 45-46, and puts things into perspective for all of us: “ …I will call you friends, for you are my friends, and ye shall have an inheritance with me--   I called you servants for the world’s sake, and ye are their servants for my sake-” My challenge is to serve with sincere love, for that is what friends do, they serve one another willingly and happily and with love.   But then in the very next verse, He points out areas in which His leaders must improve. July 21, 2017 Section 52:1-44 General Conference Importance Of, Faith and Faithfulness, Faith Rewards Of, In the Strength of the Lord, Missionary Behavior, Missionary Awareness, I loved reading the Historical Background in the student manual, p112: a General Conference had just been held in Kirtland. “ So important was this conference that letters were sent to the missionaries calling them all to Kirtland (see D&C 44:1)”. After the 3 day conference “ The Prophet recorded that “harmony prevailed’ and “faith was strengthened”. Many desired to obey the Lord’s commandments but were uncertain about what specifically they could do. On the day following the conclusion of the conference the Prophet was given the specific calls and instructions in what is now Doctrine & Covenants 52.”   One of the answers to their question is found in v 4: “And inasmuch as they are faithful unto me, it shall be made know unto them what they shall do.” I feel that means faithful in keeping t...
