September 14, 2018 Section 110: 4-16 Temples, Kirtland Temple, Memories, Family History, Genealogy, Elijah, v 7 states the Lord’s promise to us: “ I will manifest myself to my people in mercy in this house” and then in v 8 he gives our part of this promise: “ …if y people will keep my commandments, and do not pollute this holy house.” V 12 speaks of Elias who will bring back the “gospel of Abraham” which Bruce R McConkie stated is “ the great Abrahamic covenant whereby the faithful receive promises of eternal increase, promises that through celestial marriage their eternal posterity shall be as numerous as the sands upon the seashore or as the stars in the heaven for multitude. Elias gives the promise—received of old by Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—that in modern men and in their seed all generations shall be blessed. And we are now offering the blessings of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to all who will receive them.” Gen Conf May 1983 V 15 speaks of Elijah’...

September 13, 2018 Section 110:1-3 Kirtland temple dedication, Temples, Personal Revelation My Most Treasured Experience, Prayers Answered, Veil Seeing Through It, Another Child?, Family History, Memories This section was written in the days just after the dedication of the Kirtland Temple. The saints had been holding meetings in the temple daily since the dedication. This revelation was received Sunday, April 3 1836. There was a large congregation of 1000 members in the church. After hearing several speakers, the Twelve passed the sacrament. After that Joseph states: “ I retired to the pulpit, the veils being dropped, and bowed myself, with Oliver Cowdery, in solemn and silent prayer. After rising rom the prayer, the following vision was opened to both of us .” V 1: “ The veil was taken from our minds, and the eyes of our understanding were opened.” I love this verse, for that is what I felt long ago when I had long prayed for months, along with reading the sc...

April 17, 2017 Sections 15-16 Scriptures Value Of, History Value Of, Spiritual Guidance, Lord’s Love and Tender Care, Family History, Waits Family History, Scripture Teaches Us, Prayer, Answers to Prayer, Waits Family Letters, These two sections are similar to section 14. Each section is addressed to a different member of the Whitmer family, for these 3 men came to Joseph to ask specifically, and with “much earnestness” (the scriptures stipulate the importance of our DESIRE in obtaining answers) to know what the Lord would specifically have them do. These 3 sections take me back to our time in the Netherlands. I would be in our tiny kitchen there preparing dinner. During the course of my work, each of our 6 children would poke their head in and ask ‘What are we having for dinner?’ The reaction of each child to my answer was not always enjoyable for me to deal with.
