10/15/2018 - Section 115:8-10

October 15, 2018 Section 115: 8-10 Do it Do it Now, Unity, Obedience, Follow the Prophet, Gird Up Your Loins, Service, Ministering, I’ve had some computer troubles and thought I had lost much of this scripture journal, but I only lost 1 day. So today, for the second time, I will study the last part of section 115. And I’m am doing that because it brought a new insight to me as I read it. I will try to recapture those thoughts. The Lord is speaking to a people who have joined the church, have made a long move to the edge of civilization, who have built communities in Jackson County Missouri, and who have been forced out of their home and to a new place where they will start, once again to build and to settle. Did they do everything right through all of these difficult journeys? No. They were prideful within and without church communities. They were sometimes stingy in how they obeyed commandments. They did not always try to help those near to them…whether ...

10/4/2018 - Section 115:6

October 4, 2018 Section 115:6 Wards and How They Should Be, Relief Society Atmosphere, Love at Church, Ministering, Reaching Out, Thinking Outside Myself, Today when I read v 6, I saw in it something I had not seen in it before: “And that the gathering together upon the land of Zion, and upon her stakes, may be for a defense, and for a refuge from the storm and from wrath when it shall be poured out without mixture upon the whole earth.” It takes me a long time to acclimate to a new ward or branch. My problem is not with the functions of a new ward, for I still feel the spirit touch my heart and mind as I take the sacrament. It is nothing about gospel tenets that I have trouble with, but it is the slowness I have in feeling love for and from the people there. This happens every time we are part of a new ward or branch, and it is a situation that takes months, and often years to overcome. The fact that it occurs in EVERY ward, to me indicates that the problem is wit...

8/27/2018 - Section 107:76-100

August 27, 2018 Section 107:76-100 Government of the Church, Callings How to Go About Them, Ministering, Diligence in the Lord’s Work, Mantle of Peace and Comfort, V 76 continues on the government of the church, particularly in holding courts. It speaks courts for the rank and file of the church, and continues on to courts for any of the first presidency of the church. With Donald Trump (who I strongly view as a corrupt and unprincipled man) as the president of the USA, how I wish the laws and processes of our country were as clear as those of the church. Elder Widtsoe wrote about the process of a court brought together “ …should it become to try a member of the First Presidency for crime or neglect of duty.” That’s when my thought shifted from Mr Trump to myself. I try hard not to commit crimes--which in this sense means to me that I should not to be disobedience to the Lord’s commandments—But then there’s that second phrase “neglect of duty” –that’s where ...
