1/31/2019 - Section 136:12-42

January 31, 2019 Section 136:12-42 Obedience, Lord’s Rules for Living, Keep the Commandments, Unity, Draw Near Unto Me, Satan’s Efforts, Smith and Sjodahl summarize verses 18-27 beautifully : “the members of the Church had been disappointed, if not discouraged, because Zion had not been redeemed. No doubt it was trying to the faith of some to be on the way to the unknown region of the Rocky Mountains. All that they had heard of this territory was discouraging and the redemption of Zion seemed farther away than ever from fulfillment. Now they were to take courage, for the Lord had not forgotten Zion, and it should be redeemed in the due time of the Lord. It was well, therefore, for the members to obey counsel and not seek to build themselves at the expense of others; should this be done they would lose the reward. The Lord would lead them as he led the children of Israel, and he was just as mindful of the Saints today as he was then. Every man should respect t...

10/15/2018 - Section 115:8-10

October 15, 2018 Section 115: 8-10 Do it Do it Now, Unity, Obedience, Follow the Prophet, Gird Up Your Loins, Service, Ministering, I’ve had some computer troubles and thought I had lost much of this scripture journal, but I only lost 1 day. So today, for the second time, I will study the last part of section 115. And I’m am doing that because it brought a new insight to me as I read it. I will try to recapture those thoughts. Did they do everything right through all of these difficult journeys? No. They were prideful within and without church communities. They were sometimes stingy in how they obeyed commandments. They did not always try to help those near to them…whether ...

6/7/2017 - Section 38:10-28

June 7, 2017 Section 38:10-28 Weakness How the Lord Views It, Weakness How to Overcome, Companions, Unity,  V 14: The Lord knows our weaknesses and our iniquities. He knows, too, the status of our hearts and our faith. And yet He says “… But I will be merciful unto your weaknesses.” Then, in His very next sentence in the very next verse, He shows us that He has no intention of helping us to continue in our iniquities or in our wavering faith. He commands (v 15) “ Therefore be ye strong from henceforth; fear not, for the kingdom is yours.” He has given us our next goal. We determine how we bring that goal to fruition. As the Lord tells us how to live a higher law He explains in v 24 --and reinforces in v 25—what we should do: “ And let every man esteem his brother as himself, and practice virtue and holiness before me. 25. And again I say unto you, let every man esteem his brother as himself.”   Anything the Lord repeats is of great importance and that is His way o...
