5/1/2018 - Section 93:19-30

May 1, 2018 Section 93:19-30 Progress, Growth, Worship, Grace, Truth and the True Church, V 19 is very much like the prayer I offered before I started my reading today, or probably better stated: it is very much an immediate answer to the prayer I offered before I started my reading today: “ I give unto you these sayings that you may understand and know how to worship, and know what you worship, that you may come unto the Father in my name, and in due time receive of his fullness.” And, very appropriately, v 20 continues to teach and promise, saying that if I keep His commandments I SHALL be glorified…and I SHALL receive grace for grace…(which, from yesterday’s study where I learned that grace is   “the merciful kindness by which God, exerting his holy influence upon souls, turns them to Christ, keeps, strengthens, increases them in Christian faith, knowledge, affection, and kindles them to the exercise of Christian virtues.” I don’t need to be worried a...

4/30/2018 - Section 93:2-18

April 30, 2018 Section 93:2-18 Light of Christ, Scripture Yet To Be Revealed, Obedience, Grace, Draw Near Unto Me, In v 6 Christ speaks of John’s record of His ministry, telling us that “ the fullness of John’s record is hereafter to be revealed.” I followed the footnote from that verse to John 20:30-31: “ 30. And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. 31. But there are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing he might have life through his name.” Bruce R McConkie felt that John the apostle wrote having John the Baptist’s writings, and thus, John the Baptist’s firm testimony, and someday the world will also have that. For v’s 6-18 promise that, and explain how even Jesus had to grow grace by grace in this world and “ received not of the fullness at first, but continued from grace to grace, until he received a fullness.” (v 13) And then comes v 1...

4/26/2018 - Section 93:1

April 26, 2018 Section 93:1 Testimony,   My Testimony, Historically this section was given 3 years after the church was organized. The saints were gathered in two main places: Kirtland, Ohio and Jackson County, Missouri. The School of the Prophets was well organized in Kirtland and was a place of learning and revelation. And the saints in Jackson County were working to prepare a place for all the members of the church. But this was also the time that there were many problems and then mobs began to gather to persecute the saints in Jackson County. In members of the church apostatized in both areas, and turned against their former leaders. And this was the time the Lord revealed section 93. V 1 delineates the path to KNOWING the Lord. It is a beautiful promise to people everywhere: “ …every soul who forsaketh his sins and cometh unto me, and calleth on my name and obeyeth my voice, and keepeth my commandments, shall see my face and know that I am.” ...

4/23/2018 0 Section 92:1-2

April 23, 2018 Section 92:1-2 United Order, Order of Enoch, Lively Members, Peace, Comfort, Sorrow, Trials, Growth, If I understand the timing here, this section was given 1 year and 1 month after section 82. In that section, the saints were trying to live the United Order, but there were those who did not comply and lived selfishly among the saints. But in verses 11-12 of section 82, the leaders had been commanded to live the Order of Enoch and be examples to the rest of the saints on how to live the law of consecration. Those leaders were Joseph Smith, Oliver Cowdery, Martin Harries, Sidney Rigdon, Newel K Whitney and a few others. There were to unite their temporal interests under the rule of the Order of Enoch. Now, in Section 92 Frederick G. Williams—who is now one of the 2 counselors to Joseph Smith is being commanded to join the Order of Enoch. The Lord says to him: “ …you shall be a lively member in the order; and inasmuch as you are faithful in keepi...
