May 25, 2018 Section 100:3-17 Missionary Promises, Holy Ghost Prompter and Revelator, Lord’s Protection, Lord’s Insurance Plan, Angels Round About Us to Bear Us Up, Comfort and Peace, These verses speak to me as a missionary. How can I amplify on what the Lord has said—except for doing what He has asked…speaking the thoughts that He puts into my heart. “4. …I, the Lord have suffered you to come unto this place; for thus it was expedient in me for the salvation of souls. 5. May 24, 2018 Section 100: 1-2 Missionary Blessings for Families, There is great unrest in and around the saints in Missouri, there is much to do in Kirtland, and the Lord called Joseph and Sidney Rigdon to go on a mission. They had been “long absent” from their families. Joseph wrote in his journal on 10/11/1833 “ I feel very well in my mind. The Lord is with us, but have much anxiety about my family. ” This revelation is dated Oct 12, 1833. Verses 1 says everything we need to know about how missionary work affects our families: “1. Verily (truly), thus saith the Lord unto you, my friends Sidney and Joseph, your families are well; they are in mine hands, and I will do with them as seemeth me good: for in me there is all power.” And verse 2 defines our role: “2. Therefore, follow me, and listen to the counsel which I shall give unto you.” The Savior calls them “my friends”. May 22, 2018 Section 99: 1-8 Missionary Promises, Missionary Service, Callings Timing Of, Convert Promises, I love this section. It was given specifically to John Murdock—a regular guy who had embraced the gospel when Sidney Rigdon and his group passed through the Kirtland area on that first western journey to the Lamanites. It’s also a good lesson to me to realize that Sidney Rigdon and his companions used their travel time to proclaim the gospel to those they met.   John Murdock’s directions are simple: (v1) go east, go from house to house, from village to village, from city to city proclaiming the gospel. He is also given a ‘head’s up’ that he will “ proclaim mine everlasting gospel…in the midst of persecution and wickedness.” Just as it is today, being a missionary is not all roses.
