7/29/2018 - Section 106:1-8

July 29, 2018 Section 106:1-8 Second Coming, Lord’s Payments, Apostasy of 1837, Children of Light, Lord’s Work is Hard Work, Lord’s Promises This section is to Warren Cowdery. He is Oliver Cowdery’s eldest brother. Oliver was the youngest of 8 children and Warren was the oldest. Joseph Smith visited in his home. Warren is called as a ‘local presiding officer’. He is to work with the saints in his town, and in quite a few other towns in adjoining counties. The Lord has requested that he “ devote his whole time to the this high and holy calling, which I now give unto him seeking diligently the kingdom of heaven and its righteousness, and all things necessary shall be added thereunto; for the laborer is worth of his hire.” When we do our best in what we have been called to do, and add to that doing our best in what we are impressed to do, then the Lord has promised us all ‘necessities’, for we are “worthy of our hire”. His work truly is WORK, and his ‘necessitie...

7/26/2018 - Section 105:26-41

July 26, 2018 Section 105:26-41 Law of Consecration, United Order, Charity, Draw Near Unto Me, Seeing Others as the Lord Sees Them, Spiritual Growth, Patience, Endurance, Keeping Our Goal In Sight, As I read v 28 & 29, it suddenly struck me at the economy of the Lord’s language, of his ability to say so much in so few words. He is speaking of how to proceed with the growth and settlement of Jackson County, and this is given AFTER many of the saints have been forced from their home, and after the Lord has explained where and how they failed to live up to the law of consecration “ And to have sent wise men, to fulfil that which I have commanded concerning the purchasing of all the lands in Jackson county that can be purchased, and in the adjoining counties round about.    For it is my will that these lands should be purchased; and after they are purchased that my saints should possess them according to the laws of consecration which I have given.” ...

7/24/2018 - Section 105:1-25

July 24, 2018 Section 105:1-25 Pure in Heart, United Order Problems, Purify Ourselves, Good Samaritan Opportunities, Humility, Unselfishness, Love, Prayer, Draw Near Unto Me, Temple Importance, In v’s 4-5 the Lord explains, once again, why the saints were forced from their homes. It was because they were “ not united according to the union required by the law of the celestial kingdom; and Zion cannot be built up unless it is b the principles of the law of the celestial kingdom: otherwise I cannot receive her unto myself.” The Lord gave the saints the opportunity to live a celestial law, but the saints lacked a celestial love, as well as a celestial effort. I don’t know how many times I have gone about my church callings while complaining about others. I must realize that even when an event comes off well, or a lesson is effective, I have fallen short if I have not a pure heart. I believe, as I read through these scriptures, and the study manual, and examine m...

7/23/2018 - Section 104:60-86

July 23, 2018 Section 104:60-86 Sacred Treasures of Thoughts and Knowledge, Humility, Tithes and Offerings Given Promptly, Draw Near Unto Me, In v’s 60-70, the Lord commands that two treasuries be created: one for sacred things, and one for monies that come into the church, or increase that come to the saints. If I take this scripture to heart, I need to do the same things. This, and my other scripture journals and well as my personal journals, and probably my family letters in the “Waits Family Lifetime Correspondence” blog combine to make up my ‘treasury for sacred things’. And then there is the “sacred treasury” that I take to mean my church contribution. The advice the Lord gave to the saints then is in v 68: “ And all moneys that you receive in your stewardships…shall be cast into the treasury as fast as you receive moneys, by hundreds, or by fifties, or by twenties, or by tens, or by fives.” I used to wonder if I should pay donations at the end of the y...
