July 22, 2018 Section 104:53-59 Scripture Purposes, Doctrine and Covenants contains revelations from God,   In this section the Lord has explained exactly why the United Order has not worked well. And because so many of the Saints have not be ‘saints’, he has had to water down what he expects of them…which means he has to also water down their opportunities for growt and blessings. This was true in the early days of the Church, and it is just as true today. The Lord gives us commandments and challenges. It’s up to us whether we grow or shrink. He then gives this specific commandment in v’s 58-59: “ 58. And for this purpose I have commanded you to organize yourselves, even to print my words, the fullness of my scriptures, the revelations which I have gien unto you, and which I shall, hereafter, from time to time give unto you—59. For the purpose of building up my church and kingdom on the earth, and to prepare my people for the time when I shall dwell with...

July 20, 2018 Section 104:11-52 Earth’s Resources, Population Explosion, United Order, Progress Both Physical and Spiritual, V 14 resolves the debates over population explosion: “ For the earth is full, and there is enough and to spare; yea, I prepared all things, and have given unto the children of men to be agents unto themselves.” There ARE problems all over the world of distribution. The Lord solves this problem very easily. Those who have, help those who have not. Then we all work together to create the most wonderful environment we can. This can be accomplished only when we act in compassion, charity, unselfishness, and in response to spiritual promptings. It’s a role the Lord has told us that we can surely grow into—in fact, that’s one of our important assignments to complete before heading back home to him. As the Lord assigns properties in his reorganization of the United Order “ Specific directions are given for stewardships. Sidney Rigdon is gi...

July 19, 2018 Section 104:1-10 United Orders, Covenant Keeping, Charity, Holy Ghost, Spiritual Progression, Progress Spiritual, This section is given at a time when the Church, and its members, were in great financial distress. The Lord begins by explaining the reason for the United Order, and the attitudes that must be adopted by the people who are brought into this order. It was organized to be a “ benefit of my church, and for the salvation of men until I come—With promise immutable and unchangeable that inasmuch as those whom I commanded were faithful they should be blessed with a multiplicity of blessing.” ( v 1-2) But, just as in all of the Lord’s commandments, there is an “if then” clause. He let’s us know what will happen if we follow his commandments, and he informs us what will happen if we do not follow his commandments. In v 5 he reminds us “ For I, the Lord, have decreed, in my heart, that inasmuch as any man belonging to the order shall be found...

July 15, 2018 Section 103:15-40 Lord’s Protection, Angels Round About You, Growth, Faith, Preparation, Obedience, Prayer, Diligence, Perseverance, Lord Keeps Promises, Draw Near Unto Me, What beautiful verses to saints who have been forced from their homes and belongings and land: “ Therefore, let not your hearts faint….But I say unto you: Mine angels shall go up before you, and also my presence, and in time ye shall possess the goodly land.”   (v 19-20) The student manual speaks of some saints who then crossed the plains (and this is after Jackson County, after Nauvoo) were anxious to return to Jackson County because that is what had been prophesied. They were so anxious that they were reluctant to make improvements to their homes and lands in Utah, as they figured they were soon be heading back east. The Lord lets us know his promises, but not his timelines. And I understand that. If we knew just when the major things would happen, so many of us would w...
