11/14/2018 - Section 124:1-20

November 14, 2018 Section 124:1-20 Attributes of Christ, What the Lord Looks For, Draw Near Unto Me, Lean on the Lord, Character Traits the Lord Loves, By October 1838, the saints were finding places to resettle after having been driven out of Missouri. People in Quincy Illinois and near Commerce Illinois and some in Iowa were kind and receptive to the saints. The gathering began again. This was a time of rest and recuperation and rebuilding for the saints. Smith and Sjodahl: “ The scattered saints were gathering, and the settlements in Illinois were growing rapidly. The mission in Great Britain was highly successful. Such were the general conditions when this revelation was given. The Church had a moment’s rest. There was calm before the next storm .” That’s a very good thing for me to remember as I continue my journey through life…There’s no predicting the weather. So we just have to be prepared for cold, hot, rainy, drought, or tornados, and maybe...

11/13/2018 - Section 123:1-17

November 13, 2018 Section 123:1-17 Personal Journal, Persecution How to React, Callings Cheerfully Fulfilled, Lord’s Fairness, Go Forward in Faith, All is Right With Our World, It’s been hard to be away from my scripture study, but we’ve had amazing and tender times with Elder Stevenson (Australian) who went from neck pain he thought was an insect bite to full right side paralysis in 36 hours. He had an emergency air medical evacuation him from Palawan to Manila. I met him in the hospital here, and then spent 11 days with him and watched as he worked to hard to understand the diagnosis of Conversion Disorder, and to get his brain and muscles reconnected once again, and plan his physical and mental recovery with spiritual insight. We’re now waiting for his exit visa. And in the meantime, we have had Sister Calagui diagnosed with active TB—very evident by the lesion in her lung. We started with a poorly trained doctor on Palawan, and then had to convince her th...

10/30/2018 - Section 122:1-9

October 30, 2018 Section 122:1-9 Trials and Tribulations, Endure to the End, Atonement, Lord’s Closeness to Us, This is the second revelation that was received over a 5 day period when Joseph was in Liberty Jail. This is how one description that went right to my heart: “ The five months of imprisonment, abuse, malnutrition, and separation that the Prophet Joseph Smith and his friends suffered in Liberty Jail in Missouri contrast starkly with the sublime communication sent by the Prophet to the suffering Saints.” V 1 speaks of the harsh experiences that Joseph Smith will receive from men and from hell. President Kimball said, besides fulfilling prophecy, this negative attention is in one way a good sign: “We can…tell that we are making progress by the attention we get from the adversary….This has been the lot of the Lord’s people from the beginning, and it will be no different in our time.” April 1980 Gen Conf In verses 4-7 the Lord details various, an...

10/29/2018 - Section 121:26-46

October 29, 2018 Section 121:26-46 Testimony, Loss of Faith, Revelation Still Guides the Church, Callings in the Church, Promises of Performing Pure Service, Service Rewards, Growth and Development, Eternal Growth, I re-read a quote from the student manual when I sat down today. It is from George Q Cannon and he is speaking about how people who once believed fall away: “ The Saints should not imagine that because they know the truth and the Work of God at the present time, that they will alsways know these things and therefore be able to stand. If they lose the Holy Spirit throught their transgressions, from that moment theier knowledge respecting he Work of God ceases to increase and becomes dead: a short time only elapses before such persons deny the faith. ” I don’t know if we can steriotype how people decided to leave the church. But I do know that this life is to help us progress, and that a spiritual truth is that we are either progressing or regressing. If we...
