Second Coming, If Ye Are Prepared Ye Shall Not Fear,
There is
a phrase in v 9 that really stood out to me today. The Lord is speaking of His
second coming and all that will happen then when He says: “…that
which was spoken by my apostles must be fulfilled; for as they spoke so shall
it come to pass.” The apostles of the
Lord, both ancient and modern speak the truth. The Lord wants us to know what’s
coming so we can be prepared. He is not a God of surprises. I think we knew
much about this earth life before we came. It only makes sense that God would
warn us of the final and ultimate events and purpose of this earth. In the
pre-existence we knew, then the veil was placed over us. The Lord is making
sure that we know the culminating events so that we can choose which side of
those events we want to be on. I always remind myself of His truthful
statement: “If ye are prepared, ye shall not fear” (D&C 38:30)
V 17: the
Lord has ever said that if we knock, he shall open. There is that picture of
Christ waiting just on the other side of the large door that only has a door
knob on the Lord’s side. But He is there—inches away—just waiting to open the
door at our slightest knock. But we must remember, there IS an end to the
earth, there IS an end to our earthly tests and it is best for us if we fully
complete those tests while we are here: “…for behold, my blood shall
not cleanse them if they hear me not.” We
must ask and seek and knock while we are here on earth. We must desire and work
for our blessings…the blessings we were promised would be available to us here
on earth.

The Lord tells us that we are defiantly in the last days. President Joseph Feilding Smith explained:
“The world is rapidly coming to its end, that is, the end of the days of wickedness. When it is fully ripe in iniquity the Lord will come in the clouds of heaven to take vengeance on the ungodly, for his wrath is kindled against them. Do not think that he delayeth his coming. Many of the signs of his coming have been given, so we may, if we will, know that the day is even now at our doors…. That day is close at hand. It behooves us as Latter-day Saints to set our houses in order, to keep the commandments of God, to turn from evil to righteousness, if it is necessary, and serve the Lord in humility and faith and prayer.” (Doctrines of Salvation, 3:2–3.)
In v’s 14-15 He warns us that there will be very difficult times for our world before His coming. He tells us that there will be many people who will not want to repent, changing their ways and coming back to the Lord. There will be astonishing signs in the heavens, but there will also be “weeping and wailing among the hosts of men” (v 15) There shall be a great hailstorm sent forth to destroy the crops of the earth” (v 16) And he continues on by describing frightening problems. And “…men again begin to deny their God” (v 22)
After describing these terrible times, He explains “For all old things shall pass away, and all things shall become new, even the heaven and the earth; and all the fullness thereof, both men and beasts, the fowls of the air, and the fishes of the sea; And not one hair, neither mote, shall be lost, for it is the workmanship of mine hand.” The earth will have completed this part of our time away from Heavenly Father: the education we happily left heaven in order to complete.
